Found this photo on the Library of Congress Flickr feed. There are a dozen baseball photos from between about 1910 and 1913 on their stream. I'm a history dork, so I think its pretty cool.

We'll resume regular posting on Monday. Enjoy your weekend.

The BlueClaws unveiled a new primary logo for 2010, along with a new script logo. The announcement coincides with the team's 4millionth fan in the team's 9 year history.

The new logo features what the team calls a determined crab pitching a baseball. The crab in question we presume is the team's mascot, Pinchy. Next year's model will be a tad less juvenile than the current Pinchy, but as a fan of logo design, this isn't setting me on fire. Phillies affiliates traditionally have had some pretty bad logos. But this is, in fact an improvement.

If you want to grab that single-A Hamels jersey, the Claws are selling out of their current stock and jerseys are $65 in their online shop. I'm ordering my home jersey now.

Philadelphia Phillies 12 - Arizona Diamondbacks 3
Okay, nobody remind Jayson Werth that he's only human. Werth took Doug Davis yard and doubled off Ryan Roberts at first igniting the Phillies to a decisive 12-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Carlos Ruiz jumped on the hit parade taking Leo Rosales to Big Sky Country to spark a 5 run 6th inning that got punctuated with Ryan Howard sending his 32nd homer into the visitor's bullpen in right center. Joe Blanton picked up his 8th win giving up 3 earned on ten hits with 4 K's. Uncle Charlie dusted off the bullpen phone, handing the ball over to Chad Durbin for a lock-down 9th.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3 - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 4 (Gm 1)
Pigs firstbaseman Andy Tracy was doing his best Jayson Werth impersonation, picking up 2 solo homeruns in the first half of tonight's impromptu doubleheader. Rodrigo Lopez gave up 3 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings, but Steven Register ate the L giving up a run on a hit and a walk in his inning of work.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9 - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 4 (Gm 2)
Andy Tracy continued to do damage in game 2, getting his 3rd homer of the night, and 23rd of the season, this one was a 2-run shot off Mark Melancon in the 4th. Jason Ellison stepped up going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's while spelling Michael Taylor in centerfield. Drew Carpenter ended the team's 5 game losing streak going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits with 5K's.

Reading Phillies 6 - Portland Sea Dogs 0
Kyle Drabek's 7 innings of scoreless ball continued to break down the Sea Dogs' will to live. Dominic Brown was 2-5 with a triple and 2 RBI's for the R-Phils, who definitely have an Easy Button hidden somewhere up there in Portland.

Clearwater Threshers 4 - Dunedin BlueJays 2 (7 innings)
Drew Naylor got the rare 7 inning complete game, striking out 7 Jays on his way to win number 4 on the season. Derrick Mitchell's 2 run homer as part of the 3 run 4th inning iced the game for Clearwater.

Lakewood BlueClaws 0 - Hagerstown Suns 2
The BlueClaws missed the whole "Get a lot of hits" memo, getting shutout by the Suns in Lakewood. Justin De Fratus was the hard luck losing going 6 strong innings giving up 1 run on 8 hits and 8 strikeouts.

Williamsport Crosscutters 5 - Oneonta Tigers 8
The Cutters also got out hit, starter Nick Hernandez gave up 3 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings. Stephen Batts had a great night at the plate going 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Batts was a homerun short of the cycle breaking out of a 3-21 slump over the last 5 games.

Mike Stutes, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Reading Phillies, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 16th. The 22-year old made a pair of starts for the R-Phils last week and had a record of 0-0 with 15 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA in 13 innings pitched. Stutes made his first appearance of the week on Tuesday night at Trenton and gave up one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters in six innings of work to earn a no-decision in Reading’s 6-5 victory. The 6’1”, 185 lb. hurler made his second start of the week at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday afternoon against Binghamton and pitched seven shutout innings in a 1-0 win. He earned a no-decision despite giving up just two hits and one walk while striking out nine batters . The Oswego, Oregon resident is currently tied for third in the league in strikeouts (100), tied for fifth in innings pitched (129.2), ranked sixth in ERA (3.54) and tied for 10th in wins (8). Mike, who combined to go 7-2 with a 1.42 ERA while

Philadelphia Phillies vs Arizona Diamondbacks, 7:05
Phillies: Joe Blanton (7-6)
Arizona: Doug Davis (7-10)
The Phillies have been on fire. Jamie Moyer and Pedro Martinez combined for the win in the first game of this set versus Arizona, and last night Clifford Lee pitched a complete game cruising to an 8-1 win. The D-Backs send Doug Davis out to stop the bleeding. Uncle Charlie counters with Joe Blanton, who's 1-3 since the All-Star Game.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs vs Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, Gm 1 6:05
Game 1
IronPigs: Rodrigo Lopez (7-4)
Scranton: Ivan Nova (1-2)

Game 2
IronPigs: Drew Carpenter (9-4)
Scranton: Kei Igawa (9-6)

Thanks to a worthless drainage system, the IronPigs got a much needed night off. Last nights game at Scranton was moved to Allentown and added to tonight's agenda for the double header. Rodrigo Lopez and Drew Carpenter are scheduled to start for the 'Pigs who have lost 8 of the last 10.

Reading Phillies @ Portland Sea Dogs, 7:00pm
Phillies: Kyle Drabek (7-2)
Portland: Felix Doubront (7-4)

The Phillies smacked the Dogs like they broke curfew last night, winning 18-1. Tonight the Dogs will be running up hill when the R-Phils send Kyle Drabek to the mound. Drabek continues to impress and improve, telling Mike Ashmore a few weeks ago that his arm is getting stronger every day. A frightening thought for Eastern League batters.

BallHype: hype it up!

I have a new job, and its in sports management. After a couple interviews I was hired by the Philadelphia Thunder Jr A hockey team of the UJHL. I am the new Assistant GM and broadcaster.

More prattling on after the jump...

I spent the summer (and will continue) with the South Jersey Lynx football team as their PR Manager, and game day operations supervisor. But this gig with the Thunder is the first job I've ever had that was announced via press release.

Hopefully it won't be the last.

My duties with the Thunder will revolve primarily around game day operations, which is where I feel most comfortable. But, with every other minor league program, I'll be wearing a bunch of different hats. Along with game day ops, I'll also be 1st seating the web video broadcast as the Voice of the Philadelphia Thunder.

All this means to you is that if you read by personal site, you'll see less photo posts and more hockey content. I may also drop some hockey here and encourage you all to come out to The Rink in Elkins Park, PA for a Thunder hockey game. Or at least fire up your video player of choice to listen to me hack my way through 60 minutes of "Boom goes the dynamite."

Williamsport CrossCutters 0 - Oneonta 2
Williamsport may have needed one more day off, coming back from All-Star Weekend getting shut-out by the Oneonta Tigers. Korey Noles was the tough-luck loser giving up 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings and striking out 6. Tigers' starter Luis Angel Sanz went the distance shuting out the Cutters on four hits.
